Following a second straight appearance in the College Football Playoff semifinals, Texas is looking to take the next step. It might not be national title or bust, but it’s pretty close.

The Longhorns have one of the most hyped quarterbacks in the country in Arch Manning. They also have one of the most skilled supporting casts in the nation.

Ask former Florida and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer what he thinks about Texas in 2025 and he’ll tell you there’s one key factor to look at. If you want to project out wins and losses, you have to know how to look at the schedule.

“What are the landmines?” Meyer said on The Triple Option podcast. “You look right now, there’s two gigantic ones: at Ohio State, at Georgia. Florida in the day was a landmine, it might be again. DJ Lagway is back. So I think there’s three landmines. And other than that, I think they run it.”

Meyer said that in response to a question about whether Texas would beat the Las Vegas over/under win total, which is set at 9.5 games. His answer didn’t necessarily make his pick clear to his co-hosts on the podcast.

Mark Ingram, the former Alabama running back and Heisman Trophy winner, prodded Meyer for an answer. The head coach delivered.

“I didn’t say they were going to lose all three,” Meyer pointed out. “You come out of that one 2-1 or 1-2 you’ve still got double-digit wins.”

In other words, Urban Meyer is picking Texas to win at least 10 games and beat the over/under win total. If it can, it’ll be another likely trip to the playoffs, where Texas can take aim at getting past the semifinal round.
