Saturday’s game between Alabama and Texas brought a lot of people to Darryl K Royal Memorial Stadium, including a pair of Longhorns legends. Former Texas quarterback Vince Young and NBA star Kevin Durant were seen together on the sidelines in Austin.

Durant had his arm around Young and the two seemed to be engaged in a conversation as they took in the action on the field.

Young, who played quarterback for the Longhorns from 2002-05, holds a special place in school history. He led Texas to a national championship in 2005, finishing the season with 3,036 yards passing and 1,050 yards rushing. Young’s jersey has also been retired by the team.

Durant played only one season in Austin, averaging 25.8 points and 11.1 rebounds while helping the Longhorns earn a No. 4 seed in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Since then, he has never wavered in his support of the university, making appearances at several other big sporting events as well.

Texas has not won a national championship since Young delivered in 2005, and has struggled mightily over the past decade. But this year, Vince Young, Kevin Durant and many other fans will hope they can finally get back to competing on a national level.

The game was tied at 10 at the start of the second quarter.

Controversial no-calls stalls Texas drive

Texas looked like it was gearing up to take a lead over Alabama in the first quarter thanks to some penalties against the Crimson Tide. However, a no-call in the end zone changed things entirely.

Quinn Ewers looked to complete a pass to Ja’Tavion Sanders for a touchdown, but Kool-Aid McKinstry broke it up, resulting in a game-tying field goal. But there was quite a bit of contact in the end zone, leading to questions about potential pass interference.

The referees kept the flags in their pockets, and Bert Auburn made the field goal to tie things up 3-3 in the first quarter.

Alabama got on the board first with a field goal of its own, and Texas had opportunities to take a lead, including a nice pass from Ewers that Xavier Worthy dropped in the end zone. Ultimately, the Longhorns settled for the field goal before kicking the ball back to the Crimson Tide.
