Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns landed their biggest win of the 2024 recruiting cycle Saturday afternoon as IMG Academy four-star running back Jerrick Gibson announced his pledge to the Longhorns.
A former Florida pledge, Gibson’s back in Austin over the weekend for an official visit. Gibson met with Steve Sarkisian during and took to Instagram Live to make his announcement.
“I appreciate you having me here. Coming at me my sophomore year and giving me a chance to be recruited, I just want say ‘Hook Em’, I’m committed to Texas,” Gibson told Sarkisian as everyone in the room began to cheer.
The 5-foot-10, 205-pound tail back is the No. 48 overall prospect and No. 2 running back in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 7 player in Florida.

The Longhorns have been on a tear lately. Four of their six pledges so far have come in the last week including a pair of four-star running backs in Gibson and Christian Clark.
Landing Gibson was just another win for Longhorns running back coach Tashard Choice. Choice helped Texas land five-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr., the No. 1 running back in the 2023 recruiting cycle.
“I think we click so much because he’s got a great personality, and electric energy around him,” Gibson said of Choice at the end of May. “You can’t be sad around him. And I like how he keeps in touch with my family members to see how they are doing. They have a great relationship. And I like that. He’s going to make sure the family is straight, and you have got a bond before he recruits you.”
