In need of motivation, Texas Athletics went to its celebrity super-alumnus Matthew McConaughey to narrate a hype video ahead of the Alabama game. The team twitter account tweeted out a 90-second clip previewing the Alabama game, with the Texan movie star narrating a message about hard work, hot weather and hitting the Crimson Tide in the mouth.

Matthew McConaughey hype speech

“At the University of Texas, we sign on for an opportunity to be great,” McConaughey began. “It’s part of the deal. And let me tell ya, they’re rare. Now, all summer, we watered the turf with sweat. We woke up every morning with the sun, and worked until it went back down, just to do it the next day, and the next day, and the next day. Now, the question is: What will we do when the moment arrives?” he asked, drawing out the i for a couple seconds.

The second half of the video focused more on the weather. And boy does McConaughey have some pride in that “Texas heat.”

“Well, the moment is here. Right here, right now. A Big NOON Showdown. 100 degrees and 100,000 screaming fans. Because no sir, no ma’am you cannot have a stampede without the herd. This Saturday, oh ohhhhhh, it’s going to be hot, folks. So let’s welcome the heat. The same Texas heat we were born in. The same Texas heat we were molded by. This is football weather, folks. An opportunity is right in front of us. Bring the heat,” McConaughey declared. Whew, they love their heat down in Texas.

As the video winded down, McConaughey finished with a whooping, “Hook ’em! Let’s go baby.”
