After a much-needed bye week, the Texas Longhorns are ready to get the second half of their season rolling. The Longhorns currently boast a 5-3 record and are 3-2 in conference play. That means they are still in the hunt for the Big 12 title, making Saturday’s matchup against Kansas State all the more essential. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and Texas know what’s at stake come Saturday. The Longhorns are hyped and ready for this huge Big 12 matchup and dropped the hype video below to get their fans pumped up for the game too.

In the inaugural College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday, the Longhorns made the list at No.24 regardless of not being ranked in the AP poll. That now turns Saturday’s showdown into another top-25 matchup for Texas.

Texas has had its fair share of troubles going up against ranked opponents this season. Despite a valiant effort after starting quarterback Quinn Ewers went down in Week 2, the Longhorns came up short against Alabama. And in their last game against Oklahoma State, the Longhorns struggled in the second half, scoring just three points. That allowed a Cowboys come-from-behind victory for the second straight year.

After having last weekend off to recuperate, Texas looks to bounce back in a big way against Kansas State. There’s no time like the present for the Longhorns to change their 0-2 mark in ranked games, especially with their next two games being against the top two teams in the Big 12. If Texas can upset the Wildcats on the road this Saturday, that’ll make for a colossal showdown with TCU the following week. It will also keep the Longhorns firmly in the Big 12 title conversation.

Steve Sarkisian reveals mindset of Texas with Big 12 title game still in play

Texas football is still in the hunt for a Big 12 Championship appearance. TCU currently has the inside track with their undefeated record and will be taking a spot in the title game barring some unexpected debacle. But the Longhorns have a shot make the game along with them. The road to playing in that game starts by taking care of business in the one just ahead against Kansas State.

That’s the attitude head coach Steve Sarkisian wants the Longhorns to have. Before worrying about a possible conference title, Texas has to win its way there, one game at a time. He spoke at length this week about maintaining focus on the game immediately ahead rather than ever worrying about games later in the year, and said that this year’s team is doing a spectacular job of doing just that.

“Well I think I think the biggest thing that we try to do, you know — like I’ve said, I’ve been fortunate to be on some pretty good teams, be part of some pretty good teams and programs. And I think the challenge is not to focus on December 3rd. It’s to focus on this week and not get caught looking down the road, but give this week all of the attention that it deserves.”
