WATCH: Young Arch Manning predicted his own commitment to Texas

For more than a year, the college football recruiting world has waited for the commitment of Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Arch Manning. On Thursday morning, he quietly announced on Twitter that he had given a verbal commitment to the University of Texas.
But the No. 1 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus had foreshadowed that decision previously. Granted, it was when he was a pre-teen. In a family home video, a young Manning — with a cast on his broken arm — is wearing a University of Texas t-shirt. And he tells the camera holder that he wants “to go to Texas.”
With Manning’s commitment, Texas jumped to No. 7 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. And his announcement is expected to create major waves across the recruiting landscape, with a number of top-tier prospects waiting to make their decision until Manning had announced his.
He becomes one of the two highest-ranked quarterbacks in the past 15 years to commit to the Longhorns. The other, 2022 five-star Quinn Ewers, backed off his pledge before reclassifying to 2021 and signing with Ohio State. Ironically, Ewers transferred back to the Forty Acres in December and is expected to share a quarterback room with Manning for at least one season.

Arch Manning Scouting Summary
“Possesses a pure throwing motion with one of the quickest releases we’ve seen from a high school quarterback prospect. Those mechanics pair with a strong arm to make Manning one of the more natural and accurate passers in the 2023 cycle. Has the ability to carve up opposing defenses from inside the pocket or outside of structure when things break down. Shows innate field vision for his age with the ability to find open receivers while making second-reaction plays.
…An above-average athlete for the position with polished footwork and the capability of picking up yards in scramble situations. Has filled out a big frame over his high school career, entering his junior year as the most physically developed top quarterback in the 2023 cycle. Also carries a substantial mental load for a junior quarterback with the responsibility of setting protections.” — On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power
