When moving via the NCAA transfer portal, there are always a few things that need ironing out. For new Texas wide receiver, Adonai Mitchell, it revolves around the pronunciation of his name. Sometimes referenced as AD Mitchell, he clarified his preferred usage when recently speaking with the media.

Broadcasters may have an adjustment to make. Mitchell wants to be called by his full name — Adonai — when commentators are discussing him on TV. He clarified the pronunciation as well, giving the people at FOX and ESPN clarification moving forward.

“On TV, they’ve been kind of messing up my name a little bit,” Mitchell said. “On TV, while the game is being played, I liked to be called by my name Adonai. It’s pronounced Ad-n-i if you think about it like that, it’s a little bit easier.”

As for how Mitchell’s Texas teammates refer to him, AD is usually used in the locker room. He understands not everybody is going to use Adonai and responds when hearing both names.

“Around the guys, I know everybody ain’t going to call me Adonai,” Mitchell said. “So, AD cool, for sure. I answer to both for sure.”

A good clarification for Mitchell ahead of the beginning of the 2023 season. Now, all of the focus can be on producing results on the field.

Adonai Mitchell to be huge part of Texas wide receiver room

No matter which name is used to reference Mitchell, he is expected to be a huge part of the Texas offense throughout the 2023 season. Head coach Steve Sarkisian got somebody who is familiar with playing on the big stage while at Georgia. Now, he wants Mitchell to bring the same mentality to Austin.

Xavier Worthy will feature as the star name for the Longhorns and rightfully so. He was a breakout star as a true freshman before dipping slightly in 2022. However, Worthy hopes to get back to form and connect well with quarterback Quinn Ewers. Big things are planned for the wide receiver.

Mitchell is an incredible second option, if you can even call him that. In four College Football Playoff games in a Georgia uniform, he scored a touchdown in all four. Two of them wound up being the game-winning score, most recently being the semifinal against Ohio State this past season.

No. 5 will be one to watch this season for Texas. Just make sure you are using his name, Adonai, when discussing his performances.
