Steve Sarkisian provides injury update on Xavier Worthy
From the opening drive, Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy was limping and clearly not healthy. He was able to power through for a little bit, still making plays for head coach Steve Sarkisian. However, at some point in the second half, Worthy was not able to return — something that played a huge factor in the loss to Texas Tech.
After the game, Sarkisian revealed Worthy suffered a “lower leg injury.” In some positive news for the Longhorns, the X-rays came back negative and it appears to be nothing serious. The Texas head coach is hoping to have Worthy back in the field as quickly as possible.

“We’re hoping we can get him back sooner rather than later,” Sarkisian said.
When Worthy was on the field, he was making a huge impact on the game. He caught three passes for 50 yards and got into the end zone. In fact, it was the electric wide receiver’s first touchdown of the season. Thanks to the score, Texas took the lead at the time for the first time in the game.
Once Worthy was done for the afternoon, Texas’ offense struggled. While nine other players were able to connect with quarterback Hudson Card, Jordan Whittington was the only receiver to outperform Worthy. The run game struggled as well, outside of a long rushing touchdown from Bijan Robinson.

While the Longhorns did not lose solely because Worthy was injured, the offensive difference was noticeable in Lubbock.
Texas has a home game next week against West Virginia, where Xavier Worthy will desperately be needed — no matter who is the starting quarterback. While the loss against Texas Tech will sting for the rest of the day, the top priority will be getting a crucial star wide receiver healthy will become one of the top priorities.
