ABC provides update on Xavier Worthy after heading to injury tent
Texas saw one of its top playmakers head to the injury tent during Friday’s game against Texas Tech. Xavier Worthy got hit by a Red Raiders player, who inadvertently hit him in the legs while trying to make a tackle.
ABC’s Tom Luginbill later reported Worthy was out of the tent and was working out a “lower extremity” injury. He returned later in the first half, but ended up needing help to get back to the locker room after trying to make a big play late in the second quarter.
“Xavier Worthy came out of the tent and has been bouncing around, moving around,” Luginbill said on the broadcast. “It clearly is lower extremity. It looks like he’s just kind of trying to work through any type of range of motion, any kind of pain tolerance. Keep in mind, this doesn’t just affect the offensive side of the football. It has a big impact on the ability to flip field position and score in the kicking game. So we’ll see when they get back on offense if he’s ready to go.”
Worthy has been a critical piece of the Texas offense this year and has garnered some NFL Draft hype along the way. He entered the rivalry game with a team-high 884 receiving yards along with four touchdowns to hep the Longhorns to a 10-1 record as they look to seal a bid to the Big 12 Championship.
Worthy has also been the primary punt returner for Texas this year, totaling 310 yards and a return touchdown on the season.

Steve Sarkisian: Texas has to stay poised, keep composure in final Big 12 regular season game
Texas has a chance to lock up a spot in the Big 12 Championship Friday night in the Longhorns’ final season before departing for the SEC. To do so, they have to get past Texas Tech, which pulled off a 37-34 victory a year ago. Things looked good through the first half, though, as Texas held a 20-7 lead in the early going.
However, Steve Sarkisian knows the key to fighting off the Red Raiders and sealing a trip to Arlington. It’s all about staying focused on the task at hand.
“There’s so much that’s coming into the game with Senior Night, trying to play to get in the Big 12 Championship. We just talked about poise and composure,” Sarkisian told Luginbill ahead of kickoff. “It’s something we’ve done really well on the road. We want to make sure we bring it back home.”
Texas is also squarely in the mix for the College Football Playoff, coming in at No. 7 in the latest rankings. The Longhorns are the second-highest ranked one-loss team behind Oregon, which is also trying to make its conference championship.
