3-star OT Tyler Johnson commits to Texas Tech
Natchitoches (La.) Natchitoches Central three-star offensive tackle Tyler Johnson has committed to Texas Tech. He announced his commitment minutes into the Red Raiders’ contest against NC State.
The 6-foot-6, 300 pound recruit is the No. 615 overall prospect and No. 41 offensive tackle in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 30 player in Louisiana.
Following his commitment, Johnson became the 26th member of Texas Tech’s 2023 recruiting class. He is also one of two offensive tackles in the group alongside College Station (Texas) A&M Consolidated three-star Daniel Sill.
Following his commitment, Texas Tech’s 2023 class ranks No. 23 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 4 in the Big 12. The Red Raiders’ highest-ranked prospect is Post (Texas) four-star EDGE Isaiah Crawford, the No. 157 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus.

Johnson took an official visit to Lubbock on June 24, as well as an unofficial visit to Texas Tech on March 26. Baylor was the only other program to receive a visit from Johnson when the Bears got an official on June 10.
Texas Tech’s class is made up of three four-stars and 23 three-stars. The Red Raiders’ other four-stars in addition to Crawford are Mansfield (Texas) safety Brenden Jordan and Arlington (Texas) Mansfield Timberview cornerback Jordan Sanford.
Johnson chose Texas Tech over a host of other programs. That list included Arkansas State, Baylor, Grambling State, Houston, Kansas State, Liberty, Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Missouri, Northwestern State, Tulane and USF.
