4-star shooting guard Drew Steffe commits to Texas Tech
Drew Steffe, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Frisco (Texas) Memorial has committed to Texas Tech basketball for the class of 2023, he tells On3.
Steffe is Texas Tech’s first commitment to the 2023 class. He ultimately chose the Red Raiders over Xavier, Colorado, TCU, and Saint Louis. He also received offers from Arizona State, Auburn, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, SMU, among others.
The Texas native is ranked as the No. 62 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Why Texas Tech?
“It felt like a family down there,” Steffe explained. “The coaching staff is great. Coach Peery, Coach Hester, and Coach Williams all treated me like a family. They texted me every day. Coach Mark Adams is a great guy and a great coach and I really love him. From a fit point of view, I have exactly what they need which is shooting. They wanted and needed me so that felt great. Lastly is the fans. The fans are crazy down there. I tweeted something out and within an hour it had a thousand likes just from all Tech fans. I loved that.”
How does Steffe describe his game and what will he bring to Texas Tech?
“What I’m known for is three-point shooting, being a shooter, and someone that can make shots,” said Steffe. “But my game has expanded a lot over the years. I can really handle it now, and defensively, I’ve been getting bigger and stronger.”

Drew Steffe already has a few names in mind as to who he plans to recruit to join him at Texas Tech.
“Right when I committed, I was like now I gotta go recruit all my boys and everybody to come to Tech. To name a few… Jaland Lowe, KJ Lewis, RJ Jones, Ron Holland, and two others are from California, Brady Dunlap, who is my boy, and then Jared McCain because I feel like me and him together would really fit in well. And also my boy Brandon Garrison, who I played with over the summer.”
Five-star Elijah Fisher was also in Lubbock for an official visit with Steffe this past weekend. Steffe says they really hit off and they’re already talking about teaming up.
Steffe has a message for Texas Tech fans
“When I’m down there, we are going to win games. That’s what I want to do. I want to win a national championship.”
