Before he was the best quarterback in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes was a star quarterback in college, lighting up scoreboards for the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Mahomes hasn’t forgotten about his time with Texas Tech and makes sure to connect with his school when possible. There’s a good chance that he even works on a future alternate uniform collab with the school, as current Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton hinted at when asked about his favorite uniforms at media days.

“The all-white, for sure,” Morton said. “All-white. And we also have something else cooking with Patrick Mahomes and his uniform. So we’re really excited to see, you know, those uniforms too, as well, and Pat’s done a great job for us and just helping us out with that.”

Among the schools in the Big 12, Texas Tech does have some of the best uniforms, blending their red, black, and white colors. That includes uniforms that are similar to the NFL’s former color rush uniforms that were a solid color throughout. It also mixes and matches the colors.

One thing that Behren Morton didn’t mention, however, was what type of collaboration Patrick Mahomes was going to do with the team.

At the same time, Mahomes has a deal with Adidas while Texas Tech is currently an Under Armour school. So, it will be interesting to see if there is any type of conflict with those relationships.

Whatever the result, though, it’s good to see a player working with their school and doing their best to stay associated after moving on like Mahomes is doing. It’s a connection that can be invaluable and Mahomes was a standout while he was at Texas Tech.

From 2014 through 2016, Mahomes was a dominant force for the Red Raiders. He completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 11,252 yards and 93 touchdowns in 32 career games. He also ran for 820 yards and 22 touchdowns during that time. That time included the famed game against Oklahoma where he dueled with Baker Mayfield. In that one game, Mahomes threw for 734 yards and five touchdowns.

Patrick Mahomes went on to be a first round pick and once he got to the NFL he quickly adapted and broke onto the scene as one of the game’s best quarterbacks. With that, he’s led Kansas City to three Super Bowl wins.

Now, in the best uniforms possible, Behren Morton is hoping to have similar success at Texas Tech in 2024 and beyond.
