Texas Tech had a major injury on Saturday in their game against the TCU Horned Frogs. Starting quarterback Behren Morton had a left shoulder injury, according to the FOX broadcast. He left the game at the beginning of the second half and headed to the locker room. Morton was seen walking off the field with trainers and medical staff. He had a towel over his head and his pads completely off.

Late in the third quarter, the FOX broadcast updated his status and noted that he will not return to the game at all on Saturday. Morton was not dressed once he returned to the Red Raiders sideline late in the third quarter.

Texas Tech QB Behren Morton injury update

“Yeah, it appears that Behren Morton got hurt late in the first half. He injured that shoulder. That’s all I was really told about the injury. But I can tell you the frustration I saw from him walking off the field, screaming just in anger at the injury. Honestly, the team doing well without him. He’s on the sideline. Of course he wants to support his guys out there. He will not return to the game,” the FOX sideline reporter noted.

Morton has looked excellent this season for the Red Raiders, completing 63.7% of his passes for 1,926 passing yards, while tossing in 17 touchdowns with three interceptions. In 2023, he completed 62.1% of his passes for 1,754 passing yards, while tossing in 15 touchdowns with eight interceptions.

In the 2021 cycle, Morton was tabbed as the No. 15 quarterback prospect in America, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

Luckily for the Red Raiders, Hammond has looked sharp with very little time to warm up in the second half.

He was one of the nation’s top dual-threat quarterbacks coming out of high school and he’s got the stat profile to prove it. Hammond attended Hutto High School (Austin, Texas), totaling up more than 8,700 passing yards and 84 touchdowns during his prep career. He also fueled one of the nation’s top offensive attacks, racking up 2,344 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns on the ground as a dual-threat.

His senior year, Hammond completed 61.3% of his passes for 3,901 yards and 35 touchdowns, while tacking on an additional 1,077 yards and 19 touchdowns. He was named as one of 10 finalists for the Mr. Texas Football High School Player of the Year Award.

In the 2024 cycle, Hammond was tabbed as the No. 11 overall quarterback in America, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. Not only was he an Elite 11 finalist, but Hammond also accounted for 807 yards and 10 scores in one game. It was in an 82-80 loss to Liberty Hill (Texas) High.
