Texas Tech is rewarding Joey McGuire for an impressive start to his tenure with the Red Raiders.

On Wednesday, the program announced that they’ve inked their leader to a new six-year, $26.6 million agreement.

“Texas Tech and head football coach Joey McGuire have agreed on a new six-year contract that will raise his annual compensation and keep him in charge of the Red Raiders through the 2028 season,” announced Texas Tech. “Under the terms of the six-year, $26.6 million agreement, McGuire will receive $100,000 annual increases in his yearly compensation, rising to $4.6 million for the 2028 campaign, which does not include various performance bonuses.

“The contract is worth roughly $1 million more annually than McGuire’s original agreement and has been approved by the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents.”

In his first and only season with Texas Tech, McGuire coached the Red Raiders to a tremendous season, which was highlighted by defeating both Texas and Oklahoma on their way to a 7-5 record. Texas Tech has won their last three games, and are currently preparing to face Ole Miss on Wednesday night in the Texas Bowl.

Moreover, Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt couldn’t be more excited, adding that Texas Tech firmly believes the best days are ahead.

“I firmly believe our best days are still ahead with Coach McGuire at the helm of our football program,” Hocutt said, per the press release. “It was evident throughout this football season that he and his staff are building a culture that will benefit this program for years to come. Coach McGuire will be the first to tell you that his goal is not to just play in a bowl game but to win championships, and I believe we are on that path under his direction.”

Additionally, McGuire is elated to have the faith of the administration firmly behind him, and he made sure to thank Red Raiders faithful for their continue support.

“I’m fortunate to have the support of a tremendous administration here at Texas Tech with President (Lawrence) Schovanec and the best Athletics Director in the country in Kirby Hocutt,” McGuire said, per Texas Tech. “We firmly believe the success our team has experienced this season is the standard for what is yet to come.
