Five-Star Plus+ WR Micah Hudson commits to Texas Tech
There’s something different going on in West Texas these days. That was made even more so evident with a commitment from Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Micah Hudson, the nation’s No. 2-rated wide receiver and the No. 2-ranked recruit in the state of Texas for this 2024 recruiting cycle.
Hudson, who hails from Temple (Texas) Lake Belton High School in Central Texas, committed to Texas Tech over the likes of Texas and Texas A&M after a string of visits to Lubbock over the course of the last half-year, including an official visit over the weekend (June 16-18).
Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders’ coaching staff positioned themselves well with the elite pass-catcher due largely to their emphasis on building strong, lasting relationships away from football.
“It’s the culture, how they are as a people, and it’s not just for show,” Hudson told On3.
“They’re ready to work and they don’t put on any faces. It’s the same every time I go there, and even though I’m a good player and don’t care about a lot of that stuff, they’ve been the same way since they offered me,” said Hudson, the No. 6 overall recruit in the On3 Industry Rankings, continued. “This new staff just has fun. I can have fun and can be myself. I never feel uncomfortable there. I don’t feel four hours away … I feel like I’m at home.”

Hudson made a visit to Texas Tech in January and was back in Lubbock in March for the Red Raiders’ star-studded junior day, which was heavy on the Lone Star State’s best in the 2024 and 2025 cycles.
Joey McGuire continues to win over Texas recruits
McGuire, along with key James Blanchard, Brian Nance OC Zack Kittley and also WR coach Justin Johnson, all played pivotal roles in courting Texas’ top pass-catcher out West to Texas Tech.
“I feel like every time I’m able to go visit, I get a better breakdown of the school,” the five-star receiver said this spring.
Hudson’s began leaning toward the Red Raiders this spring as the staff continued to stay on the elite pass-catcher’s case. That led to this program’s biggest commitment in years. Not only did McGuire and co. edge out in-state rivals Texas and Texas A&M, but Ohio State got Hudson on campus last fall for a game. He was slated to make his first trip to visit to two-time defending champions for G-Day, but was a late cancellation.
In the end, Hudson ultimately stayed close to home — at least what felt like it.
