5-star WR Micah Hudson (Sam Spiegelman, On3)

Temple (Texas) Lake Belton wide receiver and Five-Star Plus+ prospect Micah Hudson is as coveted of a pass-catcher as there is in the 2024 class.

He sits behind only Ohio State wide receiver commit Jeremiah Smith in the On3 Industry Ranking among wideouts, and Hudson is one of the country’s most dynamic playmakers with the ball in his hands. As a junior last fall, he hauled in 65 passes for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns, taking home district MVP honors in the process.

Three in-state programs — Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech — have long been considered him top three schools heading into this summer. He took an official visit to Lubbock earlier this month and was expected to be at Texas this weekend for the Longhorns’ big recruiting bash. On Tuesday night though, InsideTexas.com’s Gerry Hamilton confirmed that Hudson won’t be on the Forty Acres this weekend after all.

That news comes at the same time as a prediction from Hamilton for the Red Raiders to land Hudson came in, joining On3 national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman, who made a pick back in early May.

Micah Hudson likes what Joey McGuire is building in Lubbock

Hudson was in Lubbock in March for the Red Raiders’ star-studded junior day that was heavy on in-state talent. Texas Tech had positioned itself well with the elite pass-catcher, at that point according to Spiegelman, especially since head Joey McGuire and his staff arrived.

“It’s the culture, how they are as a people, and it’s not just for show,” Hudson said. “… They’re ready to work and they don’t put on any faces. It’s the same every time I go there, and even though I’m a good player and don’t care about a lot of that stuff, they’ve been the same way since they offered me. This new staff just has fun. I can have fun and can be myself. I never feel uncomfortable there. And I don’t feel four hours away … I feel like I’m at home.”

Buzz has been circulating that Hudson could make a commitment before the end of the month, with the Red Raiders looking to be the strong favorite for him. The 6-foot, 190-pounder is the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the No. 2 wide receiver nationally and the No. 2 recruit in the Lone Star State.

Should he ultimately commit to the Red Raiders, he would be the highest-ranked commitment in school history.
