Report: Texas Tech PG Pop Isaacs accused of assaulting a minor
Texas Tech point guard Pop Isaacs is facing an accusation of assaulting a minor, ESPN’s Myron Medcalf reported. The alleged incident took place during the Battle 4 Atlantis in November while the Red Raiders were participating in the event.
According to a lawsuit obtained by ESPN, the parents of a 17-year-old girl from The Bahamas alleged a booster from Texas Tech bought alcohol for Isaacs and a teammate. Their daughter was in the room with another girl, and she couldn’t give consent because she was intoxicated. The age of consent in The Bahamas is 16 years old.
The parents alleged Isaacs took the girl to another room, where she was assaulted after she “attempted to fight him off,” according to the lawsuit. They’re asking for $1 million in damages.
According to ESPN, head coach Grant McCasland was made aware of the allegations against Isaacs Dec. 14 and he took it to Texas Tech’s athletics director and other university officials.

The university released a statement on the situation Friday night.
“Upon learning of the allegations, the matter was immediately and properly reported to the University’s Title IX Office,” the statement read, via The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman. “The Title IX Office and its process are external to and independent from TTU Athletics. The Title IX Office’s investigation into the allegations promptly commenced.

“Athletics reached out to the Title IX Office on two occasions and was informed both times that based upon the information, Pop Isaacs remains in good standing, and there is no reason to withhold him from University activities, including basketball competition. The Title IX Office will continue to follow its process until it is completed, regardless of the civil lawsuit.”
Isaacs has been a key player for Texas Tech this season, averaging a team-high 15.8 points per game through 13 appearances as a sophomore. He also ranks second on the team with 3.4 assists per contests. Earlier this week, he received Big 12 Co-Player of the Week honors after he scored a career-high 28 points in Texas Tech’s victory over Sam Houston State.
Isaacs arrived in Lubbock as a four-star recruit out of Coronado (Utah). He came in as the No. 92 overall prospect from the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
The Red Raiders currently have an 11-2 record as Big 12 play gets ready to begin. Their conference opener is set for Saturday against Texas with an 8 p.m. ET tip-off on ESPN2.
