Recent USC decommit Ty Kana visiting Texas Tech this weekend
Katy (Texas) High three-star linebacker Ty Kana decommitted from USC three weeks ago, and he’s seen major renewed interest in his recruitment.
This weekend, he’ll take an official visit to Texas Tech, he announced on Twitter Monday afternoon. His trip to Lubbock comes on the heels of his visit to SMU this past weekend.
Kana is the No. 526 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Kana originally committed to the Trojans on Feb. 20 and was the fifth member of the 2022 class to commit to the program. His other offers included Baylor, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Kansas, and others.
Kana cited the firing of Clay Helton and other schools recruiting him as his reasoning for backing out of his commitment.

“Due to the recent coaching changes at USC and interests from other schools, I am officially re-opening my recruitment,” Kana wrote.
Ty Kana, Domani Jackson among multiple USC decommitments
Since Helton’s firing in September, the Trojans have struggled mightily on the recruiting trail. Without any direction on who the new head coach will be, the Trojans have now lost four commitments in the past three months. That includes Kana and three-star running back DeAnthony Gatson. But the two biggest losses have been a pair of five-star prospects: Mykel Williams and Domani Jackson.
Williams, the No. 15 prospect in the 2022 class according to the On3 Consensus, flipped his commitment to Georgia on October 20. And this weekend, Jackson, the country’s No. 5 prospect, announced his decommitment after a visit to Alabama. Jackson is one of just four prospects in the 2022 class to be named Five-Star+. That signifies that he is a five-star according to all four major recruiting services.
