Texas Tech 4-star QB commit Will Hammond tallies over 800 yards, scores 10 TDs
Hutto (Texas) four-star quarterback Will Hammond acquired a ludicrous stat line on Friday night. The Texas Tech commit accounted for 807 total yards and 10 touchdowns in an 82-80 loss to Liberty Hill (Texas).
The slugfest tied for the most points in an 11-man Texas high school football game since 2020, according to TexasFootball.com’s Greg Tepper. Hammond completed 36 passes for 719 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 88 yards and six additional scores.
Defense was non-existent, as the two teams combined for 22 touchdowns. Liberty Hill seniors Ben Carter and Noah Long countered Hammond by combining for 679 rushing yards and 10 scores of their own. Last season, Hutto defeated Liberty Hill in what was thought to be a high-scoring affair, 56-49. Friday night put that offensive display to shame.
Hammond is the No. 309 overall prospect and No. 20 quarterback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 55 player in Texas.
Hammond’s stock growing after Elite 11 Finals
The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder committed to the Red Raiders on Dec. 12, 2022. He was one of 20 QBs that took part in the Elite 11 Finals back in June. On3’s Charles Power touted Hammond as the best scheme fit of the group.

“Will Hammond looks to be an ideal fit in Texas Tech’s Air Raid scheme under offensive coordinator Zach Kittley,” Power said. “The Hutto (Texas ) High product showed very good feel and timing as a passer. He was at his best in targeting the short and intermediate areas of the field. After watching Hammond pick apart the defense on short, timing routes in 7-on-7, it’s not hard to see him doing the same in the Red Raiders offense while playing in the Big 12. In addition to the accurate passing skills. also brings good athleticism and rushing ability to the table.”
“Hammond is undoubtedly a stock-up candidate after thriving in various settings from the Pro Day workout,” added On3’s Sam Spiegelman. “Hammond showed off outstanding accuracy and timing with his different pass-catchers and the ability to deliver throws to different layers of the field. He should thrive in West Texas with the wealth of talent heading that way.”
Hammond is the fourth highest-ranked commit in Texas Tech’s 2024 class, which ranks No. 24 in the nation and No. 1 in the Big 12, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking.
