Texas Tech trending for elite 4-star EDGE Smith Orogbo

Joey McGuire &. Co. have made a few splashes on the recruiting trail the last two cycles. In the 2024 class, Texas Tech landed Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Micah Hudson and top-100 safety Peyton Morgan. So far this cycle, the nation’s No. 11 QB, Lloyd Jones, has pledged to the Red Raiders.

Now, Texas Tech is leading for Houston Alief Hastings elite four-star EDGE Smith Orogbo, per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). Tech has a 77.8% chance of landing Orogbo’s commitment.

On3’s Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction favoring the Red Raiders on Sunday with a 60% confidence level.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Orogbo took an official visit to Lubbock this weekend. Thus far, he has also taken official visits to Washington and SMU. He still has OVs set for Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma over the next two weeks.

Orogbo is the nation’s No. 90 overall prospect, No. 13 EDGE and No. 15 recruit from Texas in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3 is significantly higher on Orogbo than the other three major recruiting services. He ranks No. 26 overall and No. 3 among edge rushers in the 2025 On300.

Stephenville (Texas) four-star wide receiver Tristian Gentry headlines the Red Raiders’ 2025 recruiting class in the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s joined by Lloyd Jones and Mineral Wells (Texas) four-star tight end Preztynn Harrison as the current blue chips in the group.
