Texas Tech upsets No. 11 Iowa State with road victory
The Texas Tech Red Raiders stunned the No. 11 ranked Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday, coming away with one of the bigger upsets of the 2024 college football season. Texas Tech prevailed 23-22 on the road. The upset will certainly shake up things in Tuesday’s upcoming College Football Playoff Rankings.
The Red Raiders had phenomenal performances from running back Tahj Brooks and receiver Josh Kelly. Brooks had the game-winning touchdown run with 19 seconds left. Kelly made a critical catch on fourth down to move the chains on the game-winning drive. It was the first game back from injury for Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton.
He threw for over 200 yards, while tossing in two touchdowns and two interceptions. Texas Tech running back Tahj Brooks ran for over 100 yards and had the game-winner on a wildcat run.
He ran it in from the six-yard line, scampering to the right side of the end zone. He finished the day with 25 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown. Josh Kelly made a number of critical catches on the game-winning drive. He hauled in over 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Iowa State had one last shot in the final few seconds of the game to try and pull of a miracle, but it failed. They tried a number of laterals and pitches, but didn’t come close to advancing the ball.
Texas Tech improved to 6-3 and 4-2 overall in the Big 12 Conference. Iowa State fell to 7-1 and 4-1 in the Big 12 Conference. Tahj Brooks now has over 4,000 rushing yards in his career. He currently sits at second all-time in Red Raider football history, just behind Byron Hanspard. Head coach Joey McGuire didn’t hesitate to let fans know after the game that he wants Brooks to shatter the school record (4,219 total rushing yards).
Next up, Texas Tech will face the Colorado Buffaloes. That one will be played on November 9th in Lubbock.
