Iowa transfer QB Brendan Sullivan commits to Tulane

Former Iowa quarterback Brendan Sullivan has committed to Tulane via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Sullivan announced his decision with a post on X.
In the 2024 campaign, Sullivan made 10 appearances and three starts. He completed 38-of-his-53 (71.1%) pass attempts for 475 yards and three touchdowns in comparison to three interceptions. For his efforts, he won the Team Hustle Award on offense.
Before transferring to Iowa last offseason, Sullivan spent three years at Northwestern. Sullivan redshirted his true freshman season at Northwestern, but in the following two seasons, he amassed 134 completions, 1,303 passing yards and 10 touchdowns while only throwing five interceptions in 13 total appearances.
Brendan Sullivan played high school football at Davison (MI), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 743 overall player and No. 56 QB in the 2021 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Sullivan’s decision to transfer was likely influenced by Iowa’s addition of highly-touted South Dakota State transfer QB Mark Gronkowski in January. Earlier this year, ESPN predicted Gronkowski to be Iowa’s starting quarterback in the 2025 campaign.
Alas, Sullivan won’t lack competition in the quarterback room at Tulane. The Green Wave has added three other QBs via the transfer portal this offseason, including former Western Kentucky standout TJ Finley.
Each of them will be hungry to secure the QB1 title, which was left vacant when Darian Mensah transferred from Tulane to Duke this offseason. Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall is known for putting his quarterbacks in position to succeed.

Last season, Mensah completed 65.9% of his pass attempts for 2,732 yards and 22 touchdowns while only throwing six interceptions. Quarterback Gunnar Watson tallied 3,569 passing yards and 27 touchdowns under Sumrall at Troy in the 2023 campaign.
Many experts expected Sumrall to accept a head coaching offer from a larger program this offseason, but he ultimately opted to return to Tulane for another season. Evidently, the 42-year-old head coach won’t lack options at quarterback.
Nonetheless, it hasn’t entirely been smooth sailing for Tulane this offseason. Thus far, Tulane has lost 23 players to the transfer portal. The Green Wave will have to bounce back from its losses to put together another fantastic season in 2025.
