After three seasons in Eugene, QB Ty Thompson seems to have found his new home out of the transfer portal.

As of today, Thompson will be joining the Green Wave after committing to Tulane out of the portal. He shared the news himself in an announcement on Twitter on Friday.

Thompson has spent the past three years as a backup in the quarterback rotation at Oregon. He was behind Anthony Brown when he redshirted as a true freshman and has been behind Bo Nix for the past two years.

However, with the portal additions of both Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore, it’s clear that the hierarchy at that position for the Ducks is set for the foreseeable future. That’s why, after likely seeing some writing on the wall, Thompson elected to hit the portal in December.

Over 17 appearances, Thompson went 42-66 (63.6%) for 456 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Thompson played high school football at Mesquite (AZ) where he was a five-star prospect. He was the No. 31 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished as the No. 6 QB in the class and the top player out of the state of Arizona.

Per On3’s Portal Rankings, Thompson was the No. 21 QB and the No. 142 transfer overall.

This is a significant addition by Jon Sumrall and company at quarterback heading into his first season leading the program. It’ll be even more so if Thompson’s talent pans out in his new opportunity with the Green Wave.
