Birmingham (Ala.) Briarwood Christian quarterback Christopher Vizzina is being pursued by some of the country’s top programs, including Auburn, Florida, Penn State and Tennessee. But the No. 76 overall player in the 2023 On300 rankings will be visiting his hometown school, UAB, on Friday night, sources tell On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons.

The Blazers are riding high off of the recent news that they’ve been accepted into the American Athletic Conference and are trying to capitalize with one of the country’s fastest-rising prospects.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound signal caller has put together an impressive junior season, completing 71 percent of his passes. He’s thrown 15 touchdowns to just one interception, and he’s also run for 11 more scores. He’s caught the eye of a number of high-major programs, amassing nine offers since August.

Christopher Vizzina is a hot commodity

Vizzina is one of a number of players that On3 has ranked higher than the recruiting industry consensus. That’s in large part because of what he’s showed on the field this fall.

“Few, if any 2023 quarterbacks have done more for their stock this fall than Vizzina,” On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote in a recent evaluation. “The Birmingham (Ala.) Briarwood Christian passer has been very strong as a junior, pairing a strong arm and mobility both within in the pocket and as a run threat. Vizzina has a whippy arm and plays with a strong base in his lower body.”

Growing up in Alabama, he’s a natural fan of the Crimson Tide. And though an offer hasn’t yet materialized, with the way his stock is rising, it’s not out of the question.

“I’ve kind of just been texting with Alex Mortensen and Coach (Bill) O’Brien lately,” Vizzina told BamaBCS earlier this week. “I went up to the Mercer game for a visit, first time as a recruit, and I loved it. My family loved it. You get that special treatment when you go on recruiting visits. I have real interest in Alabama.”

He remains completely open in his recruitment, though. And UAB is hoping to pitch him on being a hometown hero in their program. The Blazers are 31-13 over the last four seasons under head coach Bill Clark and are off to a 5-2 start (including 3-0 in Conference USA) this season.
