ULM Warhawks offensive lineman Carter Miller previously committed to transfer to the Colorado Buffaloes. Now, he’s flipping his commitment to the UCF Knights, On3 has learned.

Carter Miller played his high school football at Ravenwood in Tennessee. There, he was an unranked recruit in the Class of 2022 and initially went to play for James Madison where he spent two seasons before transferring to ULM.

In 2023 with the Warhawks, Carter Miller played in 12 games, primarily at the center position. Prior to that, he redshirted his true freshman season at James Madison before stepping into the starting role for eight out of 11 appearances in his redshirt freshman season with the Dukes.

On December 15th, Carter Miller made the decision to transfer to Colorado. At the time, he was supposed to be a key piece coming in to improve an offensive line that has struggled in recent seasons. Now, around three weeks later, he’s made the decision to move again and transfer to UCF, a Big 12 rival, instead.

Now, going to UCF, Carter Miller will play for Scott Frost instead of Deion Sanders. The Knights are going into their third season in the Big 12 and are coming off two straight seasons with a losing record. The 2024 season was particularly frustrating with the Knights going just 4-8 despite entering with big expectations. At the end of the season, head coach Gus Malzahn chose to leave to become the offensive coordinator with Florida State.

This will be Scott Frost’s second stint as the head coach at UCF. In his first tenure, he spent two seasons with the program, going 19-7, winning the AAC in 2017, and leading the Knights to an unbeaten season and a Peach Bowl win that led to the program claiming a national championship.

Carter Miller has two seasons’ worth of eligibility remaining.

The Transfer Portal opened on Monday, December 9th and ran through December 28th. The portal can also open for other reasons, like a change at head coach. On top of that, there will be another transfer window in the Spring, following practice then.

UCF and Scott Frost have been active in the Transfer Portal, as is often the case following a coaching change. The Knights currently have the 24th-ranked transfer class in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That class includes 22 players who have left and 22 players who have joined the program.
