Former Oklahoma linebacker Lewis Carter committed to UCF, according to On3’s Hawyes Fawett as he heads to the Big 12.

Carter spent two seasons at Oklahoma and will have two years of eligibility remaining. In total, he had 30 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 2023 and ’24.

As a member of the Class of 2023, Carter was a four-star recruit out of Tampa (Fla.) Catholic, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 38 overall prospect in the state, the No. 17 linebacker in the class and the No. 172 overall prospect in the class.

Lewis Carter leaves Oklahoma for UCF

Carter is headed to UCF and while he had a solid two years in Norman, Oklahoma has failed to live up to expectations under head coach Brent Venables.

Venables and his team once again hit rock bottom, falling 21-20 to Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl. It was a disaster of a game for the Sooners — full of bad and undisciplined football — much like Oklahoma’s season.

OU couldn’t get out of its own way, suffering its second losing season in three years under Venables.

“Just disappointed,” Venables said. “Obviously, everything falls on me. If we’re dropping it or not converting fourth down, we’re missing field goals or we’re giving up explosive runs, everything falls at my feet. So, really disappointed in myself. I need to be a lot better. I think that goes without saying. You don’t go 6-7 and you did all these things right.”
