Four-star defensive lineman John Walker of Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola High announced his commitment to UCF Thursday night.

The 6-foot-4, 305 pounder chose the Knights over Florida, Michigan, Miami, and Ohio State.

Walker on why he chose UCF

“I love the energy from the coaches, the vibe from the players, and what they have in store for the future,” Walker said. “Also, they have a really good plan for me and they have something special that’s going to happen in the future—like them going to the Big 12.  Coach Martin is a really good coach and person, and he has a really good plan for me. We are going to shock the world in the future and one day be contenders for the national championship.”

What Staying Home means to John Walker

“It means the world to me to be able to put on for my city and help keep all the local talent here in Orlando,” Walker said. “My family supports my decision to go to UCF. I want to build my brand and be the best. UCF is the place that will ultimately help me reach my goals and aspirations.”

Scouting Summary

“Compactly-built enforcer along the defensive front who wreaks havoc on interior offensive linemen with his knock-back ability,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Measures in at right around 6-foot-2, 300 pounds with a 33-inch arm and an elite 6-foot-10 wingspan. Shows impressive raw power and strength in his hands. Naturally plays low to the ground due to his stature. Does an excellent job of initiating contact due to arm length. Sneaky athletic with his quickness, resulting in a quality get off. Jumped a 26-inch vertical and ran a 4.69 second shuttle with a 7.43 3-cone this spring prior to his senior season. Showed his ability as an interior pass rusher as a junior tallying 13 sacks.”

Walker ranks as the No. 90 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 9 defensive lineman and the No. 20 player in the state of Florida.
