UCF DB Bryon Threats plans to redshirt, enter NCAA Transfer Portal
UCF defensive back Bryon Threats has informed the UCF coaches on Thursday evening that he plans to redshirt and transfer, On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed. He will have one year of eligibility remaining. Bryon Threats spent his first three years with the Cincinnati Bearcats, where he played on the 2021 CFP team and started 19 games.
Early on in the 2024 campaign, the UCF secondary has been among the nation’s worst units. The Knights currently rank 106th in the nation in passing yards per game allowed (251.5). UCF currently sits at 3-1 overall this year, coming off a 48-21 beatdown at the hands of the Colorado Buffaloes. Next up, they’ll face the Florida Gators on Saturday, October 5th.
Threats did his former team a favor by transferring, which means Cincinnati won’t have to worry about him on Saturday, Oct. 12th. He made 19 starts for the Bearcats in 2021, en route to guiding them to the College Football Playoff. In 2023, he appeared in all 12 games with nine starts, ranking second on the team in tackles (57), while also adding two interceptions, a sack, and six pass breakups. He tallied a career-high-tying nine tackles at Oklahoma State.
Threats also added seven tackles and a pass defended at Pittsburgh. In 2022, he played in all 13 games with 10 starts, tallying 58 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, and two interceptions. He earned his first career start at Arkansas, racking up six tackles. He racked up nine tackles and his first career interception against the Indiana Hoosiers.

In 2021, Threats did see some game action against No. 1 Alabama in the College Football Playoff Semifinals at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
He played his high school football at Dublin Coffman (Columbus, Ohio). Threats brought home first team All-Ohio honors and first team All-District honors. The two-way standout played all over the field: running back, slot receiver, cornerback, and strong safety. When he chose Cincinnati, he picked them over offers from Purdue, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, and West Virginia.
