4-star athlete Derrick McFall decommits from UCLA Bruins
Tyler (Texas) four-star athlete Derrick McFall has decommitted from the UCLA Bruins, he tells On3. He initially pledged to the Bruins in early August.
“I’ll be decommitting from UCLA because I feel like it’s the best choice for me and my family,” McFall told On3. “I like UCLA, but I feel like it doesn’t fit me outside of football.”
McFall has taken a number of visits to schools around the country — including an official visit to SMU already in the books.
“UCLA is staying on the list with Kansas State, Missouri, SMU and UTSA,” McFall said. “I have an official visit to Missouri on Dec. 15. I already took my official at SMU and I’m getting K-State and UTSA lined up.”

McFall is a four-star prospect ranked No. 369 overall in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is the cycle’s No. 12 athlete and No. 62 recruit from Texas.
UCLA’s 2024 recruiting class ranks well outside the top 25 and No. 12 in the new version of the Big Ten Conference. West Hills (Calif.) Sierra Canyon four-star wide receiver Kwazi Gilmer and Mission Viejo (Calif.) four-star offensive tackle Mark Schroller remain as the only blue-chip recruits pledged to the Bruins.
