3-star RB Cameron Jones commits to UCLA: 'I knew that day I wanted to be apart of the family'
Getting the chance to stay home was one of the main factors weighing on the mind of San Bernardino (Calif.) St. John Bosco three-star running back Cameron Jones as he narrowed down his college choices. Now that decision has been made.
Jones announced his pledge to UCLA Sunday afternoon picking the Bruins over Oregon and Texas A&M.
“When I visited there there first time it felt like home and I knew that day I wanted to be apart of the family,” Jones told On3. “Coach (DeShaun) Foster and Coach (Chip) Kelly each have their own impressive résumé that they’ve built. Being coached by them is like a cheat code.
“Also, it’s close to home. My mom doesn’t like flying so she wanted me to stay close to home and I am.”
Prior to his decision Jones had taken two trips to UCLA. He first visited on March 1 and was back again on May 26 for an official visit.
On both trips Jones said he loved everything he saw and heard. That only solidified his final decision.
“The atmosphere felt different like my body tingled telling me it was the place to be,” said Jones, the No. 516 player in the 2024 class. “I feel so good when I’m on campus like that when I leave, I immediately want go back. Whenever I go on visits I try to find the cons because all schools will tell u the pros so I look for the cons and at UCLA I didn’t find any.”

Foster and Kelly sealed the deal for Jones
Out of all of the coaches he’s met during his recruitment, no two stood out to Jones quite like Foster and Kelly.
Jones said that his best relationship with any coach is with Foster. The two talk over text or calls almost every day and after Jones had his surgery, he said Foster was constantly checking in on him.
He also feels like if he’s going to achieve his dream of playing in the NFL someday, no other two coaches will prepare him quite like Foster and Kelly.
“If I want go to the league, why not be coach by someone that was in it who is also my size,” Jones said. “As a whole, Coach Kelly is taking them to the top for sure. It’s just up to the players if we want to make it there.
“When I get there UCLA will be in the Big Ten which is bigger and better. You can’t go wrong with that and we’re going to run the rock which is what I love.”
