In the final year of the Pac-12 Conference, ironically enough, it’s been one of the most competitive conferences in all of college football. This week is no different, as Chip Kelly and the UCLA Bruins prepare to take on the No. 15 ranked Oregon State Beavers. It’ll be the Bruins third opponent in a row ranked inside the Top 15.

The Beavers feature a punishing running attack led by an extremely talented offensive line and electrifying running backs like Damien Martinez. When pressed on whether or not Oregon State’s ground attack was their strength, Chip Kelly said their whole offense is talented.

“Well, I think their whole offense is their strength. I mean, they just put 52 on a really good Cal defense–Justin Wilcox. And Peter Sherman can coach defensively. They were rolling. They put 35 on Washington State. But they lost. Their only loss of the season,” Kelly explained.

“They’re balanced. I think DJ’s [Uiagalelei] playing really well. I think the play action off of their run game is something that you’ve really got to be prepared for because you can’t gang up on the run game. They’ve got speed at receiver. They can stretch it and get down the field. So, it’s a complete offense. You have to defend everything well. You have to defend the run. You have to defend the pass. You have to defend their wideouts. A bunch of tight ends…It’ll be distinctly different than what we saw last week in the Washington State game. This is big football,” Kelly said.

D.J. Uiagalelei has definitely been playing well in his new home. So far this season, he’s completed 60.5% of his passes for 1,307 yards, while tossing in 13 touchdowns with just four interceptions. As a runner, he’s had 33 carries for 131 rushing yards, while finding the end zone five times on the ground.

Last week against the Cal Golden Bears, the Beavers won 52-40 in a shootout. Uiagalelei completed 19 of his 25 pass attempts, while tossing in five touchdowns with no interceptions. It was the second highest completion percentage of the season for the OSU trigger man.

Kelly has his own signal-caller who has a bright future. Dante Moore threw two interceptions last week against the Washington State Cougars, but the Bruins still managed to pull out the 25-17 win. Moore still managed to throw for 290 yards last week, tying his career-high from the San Diego State game.

No. 18 UCLA and No. 15 Oregon State will face off on Saturday, October 14th. Kick time for that one is slated for 8:00 PM EST.
