Class of 2024 QB Karson Gordon commits to UCLA
Class of 2024 quarterback Karson Gordon of Missouri City (TX) Episcopal High announced his commitment to UCLA Tuesday evening.
The 6-foot-1, 184 pounder chose the Bruins over Northwestern, Boston College, and Tulane.
“UCLA just has everything honestly. Big time football, moving to the Big Ten next year, with top tier competition. Their track team is always very competitive in the national scene. Scheme wise it’s a pro style offense that translates a lot to the League and that’s what I come from in HS so it’ll feel like second nature. They also use QB’s like me and have had success with dual threats, so it was a no brainer to want to play under the super experienced Chip Kelly. Then, the campus life and academics will definitely prepare me for life after football. The student body is crazy diverse and they are the #1 pub school in the nation, and you literally can’t get better than that. On top of that LA is an amazing market to be an athlete in and capitalize off of.”
His relationship with the coaching staff and their plan for him played a role in his decision.
“QB Coach Gunderson came to visit me at practice mid season so that really meant a lot to me that he would hop on a flight so quickly to come visit me. We talk almost everyday about football and our relationship is great. Chip Kelly and I get on the phone about once a week and we talked for about 45 mins when I was there on the visit. They made sure to help me feel very at home and like UCLA was a place I could thrive at. I also made some good Texas connections with other coaches on the coaching staff and support staff.”
The Lone Star State quarterback joins coach Chip Kelly and the Bruins’ top 40 2024 class. He is accompanied by four-star wide receiver Kwazi Gilmer, four-star offensive tackle Mark Schroller, and others.
