Although elimination was on the line for UCLA on Sunday, the Bruins seemed calm, cool and collected all afternoon against Florida. A couple of big innings on the offensive side helped the run-rule come into effect, with a massive bottom half of the sixth being the icing on the cake.

UCLA entered the inning up 4-0 but was not interested in Florida having another opportunity in the batter’s box. After having the bases loaded multiple times, the Bruins were able to put four runs across the plate and end the game early.

The straw that broke the camel’s back came from Savannah Pola, who hit a double into the right-center gap. Driving in the final two runs, UCLA won via the run rule, 8-0.

Next up for UCLA will be the top team in the country, the Oklahoma Sooners. Only two teams have been able to get a win against the Women’s College World Series favorite and they have rolled thus far in Oklahoma City.

In order to appear in the championship series, the Bruins will have to get two wins. A tall task is ahead to get the program’s 14th national championship.

Big fourth inning helps UCLA get win over Florida

One game decides the season for both the Florida Gators and UCLA Bruins, facing elimination at the Women’s College World Series. Both already having a loss during their stay in Oklahoma City — whoever drops Sunday’s matchup will be packing their bags and heading back home.

UCLA has gotten off to a fast start, building an early lead. A big fourth inning gave the Bruins an even bigger cushion, scoring three runs. Two runs came from shortstop Briana Perez after she hit one up the middle. The Florida infield was not able to handle the groundball.

Thanks to some great baserunning from UCLA, runners on third and second were able to score and extend the lead to 4-0. You can watch the full play here.
