UCLA expected to hire Ravens' safeties coach D'Anton Lynn as their defensive coordinator
The UCLA Bruins are expected to hire Baltimore Ravens’ safeties coach D’Anton Lynn as their defensive coordinator, sources told On3’s Matt Zenitz. He played defensive back for Penn State in college and he’s also the son of former LA Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn. Lynn also worked with the Baltimore Ravens for the past two years–serving as their safeties coach.
Now, he’ll head to the Bruins to serve under head coach Chip Kelly.
Before joining the Ravens in 2021, he also worked with the Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, Buffalo Bills, and New York Jets. In 2020, he was promoted to be the secondary coach for the Houston Texans. Lynn also served as a defensive assistant for the LA Chargers in 2017 and in 2015, he was hired as a defensive assistant for the Buffalo Bills.
During his junior season at Penn State, Lynn had a very good year, racking up 75 tackles, three interceptions, and seven passes defended. Throughout his four-year playing career there, he finished with 162 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four interceptions, and one fumble recovery. In 2010, he racked up five tackles against the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.
In the 2012 NFL Draft. Lynn went undrafted and signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent.

In the 2008 cycle, Lynn was rated as a four-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus Rankings. He chose Penn State over offers from USC, Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and others.
It’ll be interesting to follow Lynn’s career and how he does with the Bruins and beyond. UCLA opens up their 2023 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. The Bruins finished 9-4 overall last year and fifth in the Pac-12 standings. UCLA faces off against the USC Trojans on Saturday, Nov. 18. USC returns the Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback, Caleb Williams.
