Colorado suffered a tough loss on Saturday when UCLA beat the Buffaloes 28-16, but an incident after the game made matters worse as reports revealed that some of Colorado’s players had personal items like jewelry stolen out of their locker room during the game.

A video circulated around the internet and social media after the game of Colorado players lamenting over their stolen jewelry and since the incident, a report has been filed to the Pasadena Police Department. But on Monday, UCLA head coach Chip Kelly addressed the situation, asked about it immediately after learning about the news moments before speaking to the media.

“I was just told walking over here, awful,” Kelly said. “The Pasadena Police were looking into it, but I literally just found out one minute ago so.”

UCLA made a statement regarding the stolen jewelry the day after the game and how the Pasadena Police will be involved in the efforts.

“The UCLA athletic department confirmed that a report was filed to the Pasadena Police Department following the UCLA-Colorado football game regarding items that were reportedly missing from the Colorado locker room,” the statement read. “UCLA is in communication with law enforcement, Rose Bowl Stadium officials, and the University of Colorado on the matter.”

Some responsibility certainly lies with the Bruins, as they hosted the Buffaloes this weekend with a record crowd of 71,343 in attendance marking the largest turnout since Kelly’s arrival in Los Angeles. Players’ personal items being safe and secure as a home or visiting team is standard across all sports at any level and one that UCLA, unfortunately, could not uphold this weekend at the Rose Bowl.

“That’s awful for anybody,” Kelly said. “You would think that when you go anywhere that your valuables are safe. But I don’t know anything more than I literally just found out one second ago before I walked out here.”

Jewelry has become a staple of Colorado’s program since the arrival of new head coach Deion Sanders, highlighted by his son and quarterback Shedeur Sanderssignature celebration where he flashes his watch to the crowd.

The status of Sanders’ signature timepiece is uncertain, but reports have surfaced revealing that thousands of dollars worth of jewelry was stolen from the Buffaloes on Saturday, with numerous players especially upset over the theft of chains that were recently purchased.

Hopefully, justice can eventually be rightfully served for Colorado, and hopefully they can get back on the winning side of things too as they’ve gone 1-4 in their last five games following a well-documented 3-0 start to the season.
