UCLA head coach Chip Kelly signs multi-year extension through 2027 season
UCLA head coach Chip Kelly has signed a multi-year extension that will keep him in Westwood through the 2027 season, the school announced Friday.
Kelly has been the head coach of the Bruins since the 2018 season. Through his first five seasons, UCLA is 27-29 under Kelly.
But the Bruins have been much better the best two seasons, finishing 8-4 in 2021 and 9-4 in 2022. UCLA also finished the season ranked 21st in the country after reaching a high of ninth.
“I am excited about our football program under the leadership of Coach Kelly and his talented staff,” UCLA athletic director Martin Jarmond. “The football program is on an upward trajectory, both on the field and in the classroom. Coach Kelly and his staff have done a tremendous job developing young men as demonstrated by their academic excellence.”

Kelly joined UCLA after taking a year off following his four seasons in the NFL as a head coach. He was the Philadelphia Eagles coach from 2013-2015 and then the leader of the San Francisco 49ers for the 2016 season.
The New Hampshire alum was first a head coach in the Pac-12 at Oregon from 2009-2012. His four years there featured some of the best years in program history. He went 46-7 as the head coach of the Ducks. Oregon made the National Championship game once, won one Rose Bowl, made another Rose Bowl and won the Fiesta Bowl during his tenure.
