Cody Schrier joined the UCLA program ahead of the 2022 season. He was ranked as the No. 29 overall player in the country when he signed with the Bruins.

Schrier immediately had success at UCLA, starting 59 games as a true freshman. He hit .298 with 21 doubles, nine home runs and 42 RBIs that season. He played mostly shortstop that year but also did spend a little bit of time at third base.

As a freshman Schrier led UCLA in at-bats, hits, doubles, home runs, extra-base hits and total bases. He was named a Freshman All-American.

Expectations were high for Cody Schrier entering the 2023 season as he was a Preseason All-American and was named to the Preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List.

He had a solid year in 2023 but his numbers were down as Schrier hit .278 with seven doubles, six home runs and 19 RBIs across 32 games.

This past season his numbers once again dipped, prior to him entering the transfer portal. The hope is that Schrier can get back to playing at an elite level in 2025 after a change of scenery.

There’s no doubt he has the talent. Now it’s all about everything coming together and clicking.

More on UCLA baseball program heading into Big Ten

It was a tough final season for UCLA in the Pac-12 conference. The Bruins finished 19-33 in 2024, failing to reach the NCAA Tournament under head coach John Savage.

Savage has an impressive resume that includes three College World Series appearances. However, the Bruins are entering the Big Ten on a low note.

UCLA was only 9-21 in the Pac-12 last year.

Savage vowed that he would turn to the transfer portal to try and rebuild the Bruins roster quickly. The good news for UCLA is that the Big Ten isn’t known for its baseball. Still, there are some talented teams.

It will be interesting to see what kind of talent Savage can bring in this offseason and whether or not he can quickly get UCLA back to its winning ways in the Big Ten in 2025.
