While the UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans moving to the Big Ten Conference made all the monetary sense in the world for administrators, travel wise, it’s going to be exhausting for everyone involved. The Big Ten recently announced their 2024 schedules and not surprisingly, both the Bruins and Trojans are going to rack up the frequent flyer miles in 2024 and beyond.
Front Office Sports recently dropped an excellent video which shows us just how many miles the UCLA Bruins will travel during their first season as members of the Big Ten Conference. The Bruins will travel 26,762 miles in the air to play their games–more than nearly every NFL team.
Check out the video below.
The longest trip of the 2024 campaign for the Bruins will be when they fly to Honolulu, Hawaii to take on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. That trip will be 2,560 miles from Los Angeles to the islands. Then 2,560 miles back to UCLA. That’s over 5,000 miles logged and we’re not only at Week 1. The flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu is approximately 5 hours and 45 minutes.
Their trip to Rutgers in the New York area will be around 5 hours and 30 minutes. That’s their second longest flight of the season. Then flying to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the LSU game will take about 3 hours and 30 minutes. And the flight to Ann Arbor, Michigan will take over four hours long.
That’s an exhausting amount of travel. And it certainly doesn’t make much logical sense. But then again, what does in college athletics these days?

UCLA Football outlook coming into the 2023 campaign
UCLA is making big transitions offensively this offseason, moving on from long-tenured quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a spate of other established playmakers like Jake Bobo and Zach Charbonnet. For Chip Kelly and Co. to churn out yet another explosive offense, UCLA will be reliant on a number of new faces.
The good news is that the Bruins have plenty of fresh talent rolling in to Westwood, from five-star freshman quarterback Dante Moore on down. On3’s J.D. PicKell recently dove into the transition season coming up for UCLA in 2023, naming them one of his “tightrope” teams walking a narrow path to success.
The UCLA Bruins will kick off their 2023 campaign against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. That one will start on Saturday, Sept. 2. Kickoff is set for 10:30 PM EST and the game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
