UCLA wide receiver Kyle Phillips delivered a stone-cold dagger to the LSU Tigers on Saturday night. Late in the 4th quarter, he dipped into his bag of tricks to elude a couple of Tiger defenders on his way to the end zone.

Watch below as he caught the ball just outside the 30-yard line, then spun away from Derek Stingley, Jr. on his way to a 45-yard touchdown.

He shook two LSU defenders on his way to paydirt.

The remarkable spin move put the finishing touches on one of the biggest wins for UCLA football in the past six years, putting the Bruins up 38-20. UCLA would go on to win the game by a final score of 38-27.

Zach Charbonnet

UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet continues to impress, tonight he gashed the LSU defense for 117 yards and one rushing touchdown on 11 carries. Check out one of his runs below.

Kyle Phillips UCLA career

In 2019, Phillips hauled in 60 catches, the most ever by a freshman receiver at UCLA (true freshman or redshirt freshman). In 2020, his 38 catches led the team and pushed him over the 100-career catch mark. He became the 27th Bruin to do so.

Massive win for UCLA and Chip Kelly

This is one of the biggest wins for both UCLA and their head coach, Chip Kelly in a long time. It was the first win for the UCLA Bruins over a team ranked in the AP top 16 or higher since 2015. The importance of the win for Kelly and the Bruin program cannot be overstated: this was a big one.

Kayshon Boutte continues to shine for LSU

LSU went down, but it didn’t go down without a fight. The Tigers’ star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte continues to show that last year was no fluke.

Tonight, he erupted again for nine catches, 148 yards, and three touchdowns. Here’s one of them below.

Notice how he uses the referee for a screen on the 44-yard touchdown catch to get LSU back in the game.

Boutte emerged as a breakout star of the 2020 college football season after he eviscerated the Ole Miss defense to the tune of 308 receiving yards as a true freshman. He earned Freshman All-America honors and Freshman All-SEC.

When Terrace Marshall, Jr. opted out, it was Boutte’s time to shine.

Against Ole Miss, he exploded for 14 catches, 308 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. That performance was good enough for the SEC record for receiving yards in a single game.

He’s proven time and time again that he’s one of the toughest wide receivers in college football to defend.

The UCLA Bruins are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 18 against the Fresno State Bulldogs. Kickoff is 10:45 PM EST.
