Oklahoma transfer RB Emeka Megwa commits to UNLV

Former Oklahoma running back Emeka Megwa has committed to UNLV, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Megwa did not see any action this season for the Sooners.
In the 2023 campaign, Megwa made two appearances, recording one carry for six yards. They were Megwa’s only two appearances in his three seasons at Oklahoma, as he didn’t play in the 2022 season either due to injury.
Before transferring to Oklahoma ahead of the 2022 campaign, Megwa spent his true freshman season at Washington. Megwa didn’t see the field for the Huskies and ultimately redshirted. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Emeka Megwa played high school football at Timber Creek High School (TX), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 288 overall recruit and No. 18 RB in the 2021 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Megwa won’t be the only fresh face at UNLV next season. In December, the program named Dan Mullen its next head coach. Most recently, Mullen was the head coach at Florida from 2018-21. After three years away from coaching, Dan Mullen is excited to usher the Rebels into a new era.

“Somehow, something about this job hit a spark in me, you know. I don’t know,” Mullen said. “We have great facilities here. The Fertitta Football Complex? That family has done a great job giving us facilities. We play at Allegiant Stadium – an NFL stadium, one of the nicest stadiums in football at any level around the world.
“You’re in a great market. Las Vegas is a great place to live, as you know. You know, we have so much going on that it kind of got me really excited. The path to the playoff? I’m thinking I’m going to go have some fun.”
The transfer portal officially opened on Dec. 7 and closed on Dec. 28, though players on teams still playing in the postseason will get an additional five-day window to enter the portal after their seasons end.
