Tate Martell makes surprising career move after Ohio State, Miami, UNLV
According to Joe Arrigo of Franchise Sports Media, UNLV Rebels quarterback Tate Martell has retired from football. Instead, he will be “focusing on business ventures” and moving on to the next stage of his life.
Arrigo also said Martell was grateful to UNLV and head coach Marcus Arroyo for the opportunity they gave him.
Martell has always been a mystery in the college football world. He first committed to Texas A&M in August of 2015 before flipping to Ohio State just under a year later. He stayed in Colombus for two seasons before transferring to Miami after Justin Fields won the starting job for the Buckeyes.
During his two seasons in Coral Gables, Martell appeared in seven games for the Hurricanes. He attempted one pass during a bowl game against Louisiana Tech during the 2019 season, completing it for seven yards. Martell had seven career rushing attempts for Miami as well, going for seven yards.
Martell decided to enter the transfer portal and head home to play for UNLV during the 2021 season. Appearing in games against Iowa State and Utah State, Martell threw for 27 yards on six attempts and rushed for two yards on four attempts.
Coming out of high school, Martell was a highly rated four-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 5 ranked quarterback in the country for the class of 2017, with big names such as Tua Tagovailoa and Jake Fromm ahead of him.

Miami Hurricanes offer Kendal Briles OC job
According to Brett McMurphy of The Action Network, Arkansas Razorbacks offensive coordinator Kendal Briles has been offered the same position with the Miami Hurricanes. New head coach Mario Cristobal has not filled the position yet and is looking to hire one of the top young minds in college football.
Briles led Arkansas to their most points scored per game since the 2015 season with 30.9. The Razorbacks were dominant on the ground this season behind quarterback KJ Jefferson and a trio of running backs headlined by Trelon Smith.
Before being hired by Sam Pittman in Fayetteville, Briles has made stops at Baylor, Florida Atlantic, Houston, and Florida State as the offensive coordinator. He began his coaching career in Waco during the 2008 season with his father, Art, serving as an inside wide receivers coach and offensive recruiting coordinator.
As a player, Briles began his career at the University of Texas as a defensive back in 2002. He transferred to Houston for the 2004 season, where he was a wide receiver for two seasons for his father. Briles caught 70 passes for 680 yards and a touchdown during his time with the Cougars.
