USC freshman Tre White is coming on strong as the Trjoans’ non-conference slate draws to a close. He’s averaging just over eight points a game and was stellar in his most recent outing, posting a season-high 15 points in the win over Cal-State Fullerton.

The performance certainly caught the eye of head coach Andy Enfield. After the CSUF game, Enfield was asked about White’s development thus far as a freshman, which prompted a long-winded praise of the rookie wing.

“First of all, he’s coachable,” began Enfield. “And he’s going to take it and get better. And he’s a very impressive young man. He’s very talented. He can put the ball on the floor, he’s an unselfish passer, he doesn’t turn it over a lot. Look at his turnover numbers. They’re probably the lowest on the team per minute played. So he does a lot of really good things. He’s developing as a player. I thought tonight he showed an IQ of how to read what the defense was giving him. And I thought he did do a very good job of that.”

He sure did against Fullerton, flashing an ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. On that particular night, White was 6-7 from inside the arc. With Drew Peterson and Boogie Ellis flanking him as the primary creators on the team, all of a sudden, USC has an excess of ball-handlers. Not a bad problem to have at all.

Also, with Peterson and White possessing forward size alongside their ability to create their own offense, maybe Andy Enfield is starting to find something on offense.

It was a tough start, but White’s emergence could help this group round into shape and make the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. As Jon Rothstein would say: Tre White. Buy stock now. Bright future for the former four-star and top-40 freshman.
