Andy Enfield provided a more than positive update when asked about the status of USC power forward Vincent Iwuchukwu.

Prior to the season, the stud recruit collapsed during an informal team workout, and Iwuchukwu later told CBS Sports he suffered sudden cardiac arrest. He was hospitalized for a few days, and has been working to get back onto the court ever since.

Well, Iwuchukwu was seen warming up with USC prior to their victory over Cal State Fullerton, and Enfield was all smiles after the game.

“It’s been great,” Enfield stated, when asked for an update. “His progression is right on target. He really looks good. Feels great. Really thankful for the doctors. I’m thankful for our administration. The people on campus that have made this possible, just to be able to see him out there warming up, and going through workouts.

“The medical staff has been unbelievable. The trainers, our doctors and our administration. Paul Perry has worked relentlessly. He’s our sport admin in charge of basketball. Mike Bone has been there every step on the way. So we’re very thankful for Mike and Paul, to really set everything in motion for Vince to be able to start getting, step-by-step, further in his protocol. Doctors said it. I have nothing to do with it.”

Moreover, Iwuchukwu was a four-star recruit out of Southern California Academy as a member of USC’s impressive Class of 2022 recruiting class, per the On3 Consensus. Iwuchukwu was the No. 31 recruit in the country, the No. 5 overall center and the No. 5 overall recruit out of California.

Indisputably, this isn’t how he expected to begin his collegiate career, but it’s evident he’s determined to get back onto the court, and he has a team supporting him every step of the way.

It was a scary situation, but Vincent Iwuchukwu is on his way back and readying to become a huge piece for the USC Trojans.
