Caleb Williams calls 2024 NFL Draft decision an 'in-the-moment decision'
Caleb Williams is already being championed as the first overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he’s not getting ahead of himself.
The reigning Heisman Trophy winner is leaving some room for doubt. Could he make the shocking decision to remain at USC beyond this upcoming season? It’s not out of the question for Williams.
“That’s for sure now going to be an in-the-moment decision at the end of the year,” Williams said, regarding the 2024 NFL Draft, via ESPN. “It’s my third year, and the dream and goal was to go three-and-out.
“Being around these guys and in college and enjoying it, we’ll have to see at the end of this year.”
Of course, there’s a myriad of factors, but it would truly be surprising to see Williams remain the college longer than needed. He’s projected to be a generational talent at the NFL level, a prospect the likes of we haven’t seen in a long time, but he’s simply enjoying his time in Los Angeles at the moment.

“Being in college now, being part of this brotherhood and being with Coach Riley, it’s been awesome,” Williams told ESPN. “… I don’t think there’d be one specific thing to effect and detour that type of decision. It’d have to be a multitude of things to lead me to one side or the other.”
Moreover, the aforementioned Lincoln Riley believes his quarterback can take his game to another level in 2023, which would lend even more credence to the idea of Williams leaving for the 2024 NFL Draft.
“Yeah, the relationship just continues to get better and better. You get more In sync. He’s getting the ability to finish a lot of my sentences, which is a good thing,” said Riley. “He’s got to continue to improve. Winning awards like that (the Heisman) are great, but it’s far from ultimate goals; it’s far from perfection. And that’s that thing we may never get there, but we all try to chase.
“So, I think, for him, it’s just building himself up, just like we need to be doing as a team. But building himself up to be ready for all these new challenges that are coming.”
Whether Caleb Williams decides to stay another season at USC or take his talents to the NFL after this season remains to be seen, but we’ll enjoy watching him attempt to win back-to-back Heismans, and look to get USC in the College Football Playoff in 2023.
