USC linebacker Eric Gentry is one of many transfers into the program. He came to the program from PAC-12 rival Arizona State, as a part of their mass exodus of players. Given his height, as an inside linebacker he stands 6-foot-6, Gentry stands out among players on the Trojans’ defense.

While speaking to the media, Eric Gentry explained his decision to transfer from Arizona State to USC.

“Somewhere to start history at,” Eric Gentry explained. “Somewhere there was already history at. I seen what they had going. There’s a lot of things at ASU that, you know, I just wanted to start somewhere new and do somewhere that was different. I think that was about it.”

Along with why he chose to transfer from Arizona State to USC, Eric Gentry was also asked about what vision he was pitched in his recruitment as a transfer and what role he’d fill in the defense.

“Just be a dynamic playmaker. Smarter. Last year I was playing off a lot of instinct, but, you know, I was also told a lot about the game, in general. So, just picking up where I left off last year and trying to build on different stuff. But, more mentally, making sure I got the right things going.”

Eric Gentry knows what makes him special

As a linebacker, Eric Gentry is one of the most unique players in the country. His length and speed at the linebacker position are rare, and he knows it.

“See over the line,” Eric Gentry said. “Going to different passing lanes–disrupt a lot of passes. Get off blocks easily. And just try to be mentally understanding that like it’s not only about my length and everything and the speed just bringing physicality and a lot of people were shocked by, you know, how physical I am with different stiff. So, I’m trying to bring that every day.”
