Former Oregon State DB Akili Arnold commits to USC
Former Oregon State safety Akili Arnold has committed to USC as a transfer following a recent visit. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Arnold was a top defender for the Beavers in 2023, finishing tied for third on the team with 36 tackles. He also tied for the team lead in interceptions, with two on the year. He was a consistent presence on the defense since 2020 after redshirting in 2019.
A Southern California native, Arnold is one of the top available safeties in the transfer portal, according to the On3 Transfer Portal Player Rankings. Arnold is the No. 44 overall player in the portal and the No. 3 safety.
Arnold played high school football at Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1132 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Arnold’s younger brother, linebacker Easton Mascarenas-Arnold, also entered the portal from Oregon State.
