Former USC guard Boogie Ellis receives NBA Draft Combine invite following G League Elite Camp
The NBA G League Elite Camp this weekend in Chicago featured 45 prospects who did not quite make the cut for the NBA Draft Combine. But after turning heads and proving that he belonged, former USC guard Boogie Ellis earned himself an invite to the combine amongst the rest of the draft’s top prospects.
Draft Express’ Jonathan Givony reported that Ellis received the call-up after being a late invite to the NBA G League Elite Camp. Averaging 16.5 points per game last season for the Trojans as extends his stay in Chicago for the combine and will look to continue increasing his draft stock this week.
Ellis played high school basketball at Mission Bay High School in San Diego (CA) where he was a four-star prospect ranked the No. 38 overall recruit and the No. 7 in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
The 6-foot-3 guard started off his collegiate career at Memphis, where he spent two seasons before transferring to USC to close out his college career under head coach Andy Enfield. Averaging 17.1 points, 3.0 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game in the final two seasons of his college career before declaring for the NBA Draft in April.
The G League Elite Camp is two days long and consists of strength and agility drills along with five-on-five games on each day. Games that Ellis took full advantage of and performed well in, highlighted by a game-leading 23 points on day one along with four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Displaying dominance on both ends of the floor amongst some of the NBA’s top prospects.

Ellis also impressed in the agility and shooting drills, making 22 of his 25 three-point attempts during a shooting drill at Wintrust Arena.
“Amped,” Ellis said when asked how he was feeling heading into Elite Camp. “I’m definitely ready. I’ve been working my whole life for this opportunity. So definitely just ready to get started and ready to get this show on the road.”
There’s no question that Ellis showed he was ready for the moment, taking advantage of his opportunity and watching his hard work pay off in front of his eyes. With Ellis joining Washington State‘s Isaac Jones, Memphis‘ Nae’Qwan Tomlin, Akron‘s Enrique Freeman, and West Virginia‘s Jesse Edwards as players called up from the G League Elite Camp to the NBA Combine.
