Former USC tight end Erik Krommenhoek makes undrafted free agency decision

Former USC tight end Erik Krommenhoek was not selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. But, he quickly made his free agency decision on Saturday evening, choosing to sign with the LA Chargers, per Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.

During his career with the Trojans, Krommenhoek pulled in 39 catches for 335 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Last season, he appeared in all 12 games, starting ten of those. In 2021, reeled in 15 catches for 137 receiving yards (9.1 yards per catch) and one touchdown. Following the seasson, Krommenhoek won USC’s Trojan Commitment Award.

In 2020, the Danville, California native started four of six games for the Trojans and pulled in nine catches for 59 receiving yards with two touchdown catches. Krommenhoek was also named a semifinalist for the 2020 Campbell Trophy–given to the player with the best combination of academics, community service, and on-field performance.

In 2019, he saw significant time at the tight end position and on special teams. The California native appeared in all 13 games for USC, starting in five of those (BYU, Notre Dame, Arizona, Arizona State, and Iowa). That season, he pulled in 11 catches for 122 receiving yards (11.1 yards per catch). Krommenhoek also won the team’s Bob Chandler Award–based on athletics, academics, and character off the field.

In 2018, he was named Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.

According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2017 recruiting class, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound tight end was rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 19 overall tight end in America. He played his high school football for Monte Vista (Danville, California).

In his senior season of high school football, he was named to the 2016 Prep Star All-West Region team. That year, he pulled in 26 catches for 447 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns. Defensively, he tallied three tackles, three tackles for loss, three pass deflections, and one fumble recovery.
