Former USC wide receiver Joseph Manjack IV has officially announced that he will be transferring to the Houston Cougars, he announced on his Twitter page Thursday afternoon.

Manjack IV attended Memorial High School (Tomball, Texas) and was ranked as a top 100 overall player in the state of Texas for the 2021 recruiting class. When he chose USC, he had offers from Arizona, Arkansas State, Utah, Wisconsin, Colorado, Kansas, SMU, and others.

A gifted athlete coming out of high school, he ran the 100-meter dash in 11.57 seconds and also threw the shot put 42.7 feet.

In joining the Houston Cougars, Manjack IV will be getting back together with former USC running backs coach Mike Jinks. Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports reported on Thursday that Jinks is expected to become the new running backs coach for the Cougars. He coached at Texas Tech and also had a very successful stint as a Texas high school football coach.

Influx of talented wide receivers coming into USC likely forced Manjack IV to transfer

Manjack IV likely saw the writing on the wall with the USC Trojans. Playing time was going to be tough to come by with highly touted recruits such as Raleek Brown and C.J. Williams coming in for the Trojans‘ 2022 recruiting class.

Newly anointed USC head coach Lincoln Riley brought a ton of talent from his Oklahoma recruiting class. He’s still not done assembling talent, as he’s reportedly been targeting his former Oklahoma signal-caller Caleb Williams, one of the hottest transfer prospects in the portal.

In joining the Cougars, Manjack IV will have one of the best quarterbacks in the AAC under center in Clayton Tune. This year, he completed 287 of his 421 passes (68.2 percent) for 3,546 passing yards, while tossing 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

In limited action during the 2021 season, Manjack IV hauled in seven catches for 67 receiving yards for the Trojans.
