Keyshawn Johnson pens goodbye post to USC legend John Robinson after death
Former USC head coach John Robinson has died, the Trojans football program announced on Monday. Since the news broke, many have taken to social media to write down their memories and send condolences to the late coach.
That includes former USC star wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, who played for Robinson during his most recent stint in the mid-1990s. The now NFL analyst penned a short but sweet message to the Trojans great on X.
“Rip Coach! If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to live the Dream I’ve been living.”
Johnson played for Robinson in 1994 and 1995 after spending time at West Los Angeles at the junior college level. He went on to become an All-American wide receiver and eventually was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 NFL Draft to the New York Jets. He also had stints with the Buccaneers, Cowboys and Panthers before handing up his cleats in 2006.
For Robinson, he coached the Trojans through three separate stints. Before taking over as the head coach in 1976, he was the offensive coordinator from 1972-1974. He remained with the Trojans until he moved on to become the Los Angeles Rams head coach in 1983.

He returned to USC in 1993, where he remained for five seasons and was the stint where he coached Johnson.
All together, Robinson is responsible for leading the Trojans to five conference titles along with four Rose Bowl trophies. He was inducted into the game’s Hall of Fame in 2003.
“After coaching, he did analysis on college football national radio broadcasts and was a development officer with the USC athletic department,” USC’s statement continued. “He also served as a senior consultant with the LSU football program when the Tigers won the national title in 2019.”
A celebration of life will reportedly take place in honor of the late USC football coach. However, it won’t take place until after the Trojans season concludes.
